Scientists and researchers have long touted the mental health benefits of exercise. It not only helps to regulate hormones such as serotonin and dopamine, it can help relieve physical pain that is a contributing factor to depression. As little as 20 minutes a day of yoga, stretching or exercise can elevate mood and help us to feel better about ourselves.

Stretching
That first big stretch when you wake up doesn’t just feel great, it literally wakes your body up. Take it a step further and after that big stretch, spend an extra five minutes at the side of your bed stretching your muscles out and limbering up for your day. Give yourself a pep-talk or run through the things you will to accomplish while you’re at it!
Exercise
You don’t have to be a gym-rat to reap the benefits of exercise. By getting your body moving and blood flowing first thing in the morning, you can set the tone for your day. Do a few sets of push ups, and if you’re not there yet, start by pushing against the wall. Each day take a step back from the wall and do your sets. Soon you’ll be on the floor and building those core and arm muscles! Start squatting, again by using the wall to assist. You’ll tone your legs and start seeing and feeling the changes pretty quickly! Do your sets while waiting for your shower to warm up and you’ll be saving time too!

Yoga
With the advent of YouTube, free guided yoga sessions are available at the touch of a button now. By spending a little time browsing the hundreds of yoga content creators, you can find someone you vibe with. Find someone whose voice is engaging to you, who goes at your pace. There are all levels available from brand new beginners to advanced. Find something that works for you. And for those off days when you just want to wind down and relax, try restorative yoga or yoga nidra!

Dance It Out
Even if your moves aren’t the smoothest, throw on your favorite jams and shake it while doing your housework. Raise the vibe in your home and in your soul! Or, take up a dance class and refine those moves!
It doesn’t matter how you move, just move!
