Healthiest for Weight Loss

This is not one of those fad diets that promise to help you lose weight fast and easy.

Diet supplements that claim things such as this;

“Oh, take this magic pill and lose 10 pounds in a week!”

Or

“Keep eating anything you'd like and lose weight easily with this formula!”

Sure it's tempting to jump on it, buy the product and see if it works like that for you.

Sure it's possible that it might do what they claim to do, but is it healthy? Is it for the long-term? Probably not…

LOSING 10 POUNDS IN A WEEK IS NOT HEALTHY!

Let's be honest here; losing 10 pounds in a week sounds pretty tempting at first. But does this type of weight loss usually last? Can it possibly be healthy to lose weight that fast?

I know from my own experiences, short-term dieting works, but then it is “short-term.” After losing so much weight, the normal thing to do is binge eat, eating large portions of food.

The body tries to make up for the food it wasn't getting enough of all at once and usually leads to gaining weight, even more than what they weighed before starting the fad diet.

Facing the Facts…..

You're probably wondering if losing weight that fast is really possible and the answer is “yes, it's possible.”

I have an article on this site telling “How I Lose a Pound a Day”, but it was only meant for jump-starting my real diet. I knew it wasn't for the long-term.

Besides, who wants to smoothies for dinner every day of their life?

Certainly not me!

The next time you're looking to lose weight quickly and easily, rather than buying into some commercial gimmick, consider relying on basic techniques that have been scientifically proven to work, such as these:

  • Weighing in daily
  • Counting Calories
  • Staying hydrated
  • Eating mindfully
  • Keeping full of fiber and protein-packed meals
  • Cutting back on refined sugars and simple carbs
  • Limiting -laden juices and sugar-sweetened beverages
  • Getting a good night's rest, practicing self-care, and minimizing
  • Engaging in exercises such as cardio, strength training, yoga, or interval training

Here's the kicker….

How do you make this kind of weight loss last?

That's where Noom weight loss program can step in and help lead you in the right direction.

Noom comes with all sorts of great tools including a certified nutritionist!

Getting Nutrition Advice

Getting Nutrition Advice

Noom's program really is one of the healthiest for weight loss support. Along with the course, they assign you a personal certified nutritionist.

That's Right!

A nutrition specialist in the comfort of your own home! No need for taking time out of your day, driving to an office for counseling, or paying even more money, when you can have it all in one app 24/7!

With the Noom weight loss app, you will be able to progress through your wellness journey from anywhere and everywhere.

Experience 24-hour access to Noom's witty content, (witty, but research-based information), as well as the food database.

Looks Like This:

Noom's Food Database

Crazy isn't it!!

I love the food database and have fixed many of the recipes from it. It is literally a food library with thousands of recipes that include smoothies, casseroles, seafood dishes, snacks, and sandwiches!

I've made their Southwest Grilled Chicken Salad, Apricot Grilled Shrimp, and Lump Crab Meat Crab Cakes. All were absolutely delicious!

I just recently made the Southwestern Grilled Chicken Salad again because my family and I loved it so much!

Great Family Food!

Although you can continue eating the foods you truly enjoy, the food database helps you plan ahead and stay focused.

The app has a section where you log the foods you eat during the day, which also shows the calories and what color group the food belongs to.

There's even a section for logging weight each day.

Being able to log food based on their color system can also give you the ability to plan ahead and stay on .

Their unique color system breaks down the food into categories based on calorie density (calories per serving). In the images below, I show what my food analysis looked like after logging my foods for the day; separated in the three color groups.

Obviously I need to eat fewer foods in the red food category and more in the yellow category, but this helps me know what I need to strive for.

Examples of each food category are listed below:

Green foods:

  • Spinach
  • Broccoli
  • Bell Peppers
  • Cucumbers
  • Apples
  • Bananas
  • Strawberries
  • Tofu
  • Non-fat yogurt/Greek yogurt
  • Non-fat cheese
  • Skim milk
  • Unsweetened almond milk
  • Oatmeal
  • Brown Rice
  • Whole grain bread
  • Quinoa

Yellow Foods

  • Grilled Chicken
  • Turkey breast
  • Tuna
  • Salmon
  • Lean ground beef
  • Eggs
  • Greek yogurt
  • Low-fat cheese
  • Black beans
  • Chickpeas
  • Avocado
  • Whole grain tortilla

Red Foods

  • Oils (olive oil, avocado oil, coconut oil, etc)
  • (chia seeds, flax seeds, sunflower seeds, etc)
  • Nuts (almonds, cashews, walnuts, etc)
  • Nut butter (peanut butter, almond butter, coconut butter, etc)

As an option, the app allows logging foods ahead of time, which gives a chance to make changes along the way, versus guessing on choices before your next session of the course.

A Built-in Nutritionist right in your back pocket!

The nutritionist will be able to follow along with your entries each day, so they can see your progress.

The live feed of data entry allows your coach to see all of your choices and identify patterns as the days go on. Making your next check-in go efficiently and effectively.

They are not available for you to speak to every day, but they are pretty good about responding to messages you leave them in the chat boxes provided on the app.

It Gets Even Better…

Along with the flexibility comes your team. Not only do you get one goal specialist, who works with you to create individual goals each week, but you also receive a group coach to facilitate group interaction with other app users.

Instead of working with one consultant with one background, Noom provides several!

The coaching team ranges from Registered Dietitian Nutritionists, to physiologists, to clinical psychologists, plus much more.

The constant contact with one another between coaches gives each individual a well-rounded experience.

Client success is very near and dear to each coach's heart. They utilize each other's strengths to give everyone the support they need.

Where else can you find a program that provides you with experts in food, movement and the mind?

Peer-Based Nutrition Support 24/7

Peer-Based Nutrition Support, 24/7

Another helpful tool that's part of the Noom app program, group support 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, that means weekends included!

Each group is led by a group coach, who keeps things interesting. Their role was created to help facilitate daily conversations, activities, and challenges to keep the group engaged in the program.

The support from the group coach and those who are also trying to lose weight, help you stick to the program.

Members of the group are trying just as hard as anyone else to lose weight and hearing their struggles can be helpful and encouraging at the same time.

They can pick you up when times get tough, celebrate your successes and hold you accountable day today.

Just think of it as another type of social media, except this group would be in this with you, cheering you on just as you would them.

Sometimes social media such as Facebook, people can be judged rather than supporting.

To top it all off, your group, coaches, food database and exercise logs are all in one place, right inside the app.

Making Lifestyle Behavioral Changes

Making Lifestyle Behavioral Changes

In order for weight loss to be successful with the Noom program app, learning how to make lifestyle behavior changes is very important.

Noom's program is one of the healthiest for weight loss and sustainable for the long-term, but you have to make some lifestyle changes to help make that work.

Behavior changes are about getting the right education, having self-awareness, willing to practice new changes, and hard work to overcome psychological barriers.

Put all of this together and you will begin to develop healthy habits.

Allowing yourself to stay focused on creating sustainable habits around nutrition and physical activity is the only way to maintain long-term weight loss.

Stick with Noom and become a Noomis, an expert in forming healthy habits, setting goals, accomplishing goals, and lose weight for good!

On the Go Recipes with Ingredient

What?

What do I mean by “On-the-Go recipes with ingredients”?

The food database has really hit a sweet spot for me! I mean, it's always available wherever I go!

Think about this for a second….

How many times have you been to the grocery store trying to figure out what to cook for dinner that week?

I don't know about you, but I carry my phone pretty much everywhere, including the grocery store.

The food database has tons of breakfast, lunch, dinner, and snack ideas along with the ingredients! No need to even write them down.

As you scroll through the food items and find recipes that interest you, throw the ingredients in the buggy that you need for them, and mark them as your favorite by clicking on the little oven mitt icon on the top right side of the screen. That makes it very easy to find again when you are ready to make it.

It's the simplest thing ever!

Never get bored from eating the same things all the time.

Noom has some really great recipes on their app. As I said earlier, I've tried several of them, some more than once.

What do you think of that Egg Plant “Lasagna” I showed in the images above? Looks yummy, doesn't it!

I haven't tried that one yet, but have it saved under my favorites. 🙂
