One recent study shows that stretching 5 days a week for 12 weeks can improve blood circulation and reduce risks for heart attack and stroke. Researchers stated, “Blood pressure was decreased, central and peripheral arterial stiffness was reduced, and vascular function was increased after 12 weeks of passive stretching training.”

Sweet Tooth!

Researchers have identified the specific brain cell and hormone that control how much sugar you crave and consume. This hormone, identified as FGF21, is made by the liver in response to higher sugar levels and acts to suppress sugar cravings. New drugs based on this hormone are already in the works to combat obesity and diabetes.

Long have the benefits of positive thinking been extolled in psychology. But researchers at University of Bath and London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE) have now found that overestimating positive outcomes may in fact result in lower sense of wellbeing rather than setting realistic expectations. While maintaining positive thought can do wonders for overall happiness, balancing that optimism with realism may benefit us more.

Probiotics May Ease Depression

Research finds that introducing beneficial bacteria in the gut may ease symptoms of depression, based on the brain-gut axis. By introducing these bacteria into the gut and treating underlying health issues such as IBS and insulin resistance, this may alleviate depression symptoms connected to these and other health issues.
