5 Simple Habits to Boost Your Mood

Whether you’re dealing with anxiety or depression, or just feeling like you’re in a funk, these simple habits will help pull you up and get you back on track.

Sweat It Out

Get your heart rate pumping! Hitting the gym might be a big ask when you’re feeling down but taking a brisk walk around the block or doing an at-home yoga video may be more manageable. For some people, working out can act as an antidepressant. So get to sweating to beat the blues!

Crank Some Tunes

If you’re feeling down, put on your favorite upbeat play list and dance it out. You may find yourself in a completely different state of mind in just a few short minutes.

Reach out

Pick up the phone and call your bestie, call your mom, call your person. We’re social creatures, even the most introverted of us. Hanging out with friends or loved ones lowers depression and leads to feelings of wellness, connectedness and happiness.

Volunteer

Helping others gives us a sense of purpose and offers the opportunity of building new relationships. Get out of the house and engaged with your community.

Gratitude

Start counting your blessings, literally. Writer down the things that are going right, and the biggest blessings in your life. By mindfully focusing on the positive things you’ve got going, you’ll reduce negative emotions.

Having a case of the blahs, feeling sad once in a while or having short bouts of anxiety is totally normal. But if symptoms of anxiety or depression persist for more than 14 days, talk to your healthcare provider.
