Holiday Belly Detox

After a week of rich and hearty foods you may be feeling sluggish, lethargic or just plain icky. Digestive issues may flair up, causing discomfort, bloating and other unpleasant issues. After spending a few months on a healthy diet, traditional holiday fare can be a shock to your system. Here’s our top tips to help get your belly and body back to feeling fantatic!

Tea Time

Start your detox off with tea time. Drink 2-3 cups of an astringent tea daily. Astringent teas including ginger, lemon, and peppermint are all excellent detoxifying teas that have astringent properties. These teas are great for getting your digestive juices flowing and help to restore your digestive functions.

Prebiotics & Probiotics

Traditional holiday foods tend to be rich with butter, carbs and sugars. This can upset the balance of gut bacterial, leading to bloat, diarrhea, constipation or other digestive issues. Pick up some probiotics to help boost your system and get it back to optimal levels. Eat more probiotic and prebiotic foods to nurture your digestive tract too!

Reach For The Veg

Try to stick to a mostly, if not completely, vegetarian diet for a week. This will help you load up on nutrients and minerals that a week of holiday feasting can lack.

Juice

If you’re feeling extra icky, try juicing to give your belly a break. Juicing provides nutrients, vitamins and minerals in a way that makes it easier for your body to absorb.

Hit The Sauna

Our skin is our largest organ, and the easiest way for our body to detox. Sweat it out daily for a few days in a row and you’ll notice yourself feeling better a lot faster. Check with your doctor if you have any medical conditions to make sure it’s safe to use a sauna.

Hydrate

Make sure you stay hydrated and perhaps even increase your water intake. This will help flush out your system and help combat feelings of sluggishness and fatigue.
